Do I Need PanaPass for Panama Tolls? 2026 Update

Yes - PanaPass is required for all three ENA-operated corridors (Sur, Norte, Este). These operate with 100% electronic tolling and no cash payment option at all. Without a PanaPass, you cannot use these roads and will need to use alternative routes through congested city streets, adding significant time to your journey.

Key Reality: Most rental cars in Panama City already have a PanaPass installed. At time of rental, you will be offered either a daily unlimited fee or a per-use-plus-admin-fee arrangement - if you plan to use toll roads more than twice, the unlimited daily option is typically better value. PanaPass cannot be obtained at the airport; purchase and installation locations are on Via Israel (opposite ATLAPA) and at a location near Albrook.

2026 Update: Panama has a third ENA-operated corridor, Corredor Este (running Albrook to CPA). Separately, the road segment running from Madden toward Colon ("Corredor Norte Madden-Colon") is explicitly excluded from the PanaPass mandate because it is not administered by ENA at all - it is a separate MOP concession. "Autopista Colon" segment is simply not an unrelated road, it is the physical continuation of Corredor Norte past the Madden toll booths, but under entirely separate MOP administration with cash-only payment.

Yes. Avenida Domingo Diaz (which becomes Tumba Muerto) is a toll-free alternative to Corredor Norte for many routes. Cinta Costera is free along the waterfront. Avoiding the Corredores adds significant time due to heavy Panama City traffic.

Can I use PanaPass on the road to Colon?

No, not on the final Madden-to-Colon stretch.
