== How to pay toll in Andhra Pradesh ==

You can pay tolls using Cash on all the toll plazas in Andhra Pradesh. Some of the toll plazas also accept payments using [https://tollguru.com/toll-wiki/fastag-india FASTag], a tag that enables automatic electronic deduction of toll charges and lets you pass through the toll plaza without stopping for the cash transaction.

<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Yes — FASTag is mandatory for all Class M and N vehicles (cars, vans, LCVs, trucks, buses) on national highways in Andhra Pradesh since February 15, 2021. Cash is no longer accepted at national highway plazas (since April 10, 2026): a vehicle without a valid FASTag pays 1.25x the applicable toll by UPI, and a blacklisted or unfunded tag may be charged 2x.</p>

<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;"><strong style="font-weight: bold;">Key Reality:</strong> With 100+ fee plazas across NH-16, NH-65, NH-44, NH-40 and other corridors, a Visakhapatnam-to-Chennai run crosses multiple plazas on NH-16, so per-plaza charges add up quickly on long trips. Without a valid FASTag, UPI payment is charged at 1.25x at every crossing, and a blacklisted tag may be charged 2x.</p>

Below is the list of toll plazas that accept FASTag.
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;"><strong style="font-weight: bold;">2026 Update:</strong> NHAI revised AP toll rates for FY 2026-27 (valid until March 31, 2027) under the annual revision of the National Highways Fee Rules; effective dates vary by plaza (Nannur from April 1, Kaza and Aganampudi from July 18, Chillakallu from July 24, 2026). The FASTag Annual Pass was revised to ₹3,075 for FY 2026-27 (up from ₹3,000). The MoRTH Zero-Cash policy effective April 10, 2026 ended cash payment at national highway plazas: all payments now go through FASTag, or UPI at 1.25x for vehicles without a valid FASTag. GNSS-based satellite tolling is being rolled out starting with commercial vehicles; private vehicle OBU mandate is expected in 2026-27.</p>

== Pay toll in Andhra Pradesh with FASTag ==
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Andhra Pradesh toll rates vary by plaza, highway type (BOT, HAM, public-funded), and vehicle class. All figures below are FASTag rates for FY 2026-27 as listed on the NHAI Toll Information System; effective dates vary by plaza. Without a valid FASTag, UPI payment is charged at 1.25x the rate and cash is not accepted (effective April 10, 2026); a blacklisted or unfunded tag may be charged 2x.</p>
''main article: [https://tollguru.com/toll-wiki/fastag-india FASTag in India]''

FASTag is an electronic toll tag that works across all the toll roads of Andhra Pradesh, its neighboring states of Assam, Bihar, West Bengal and other [https://tollguru.com/toll-wiki/india-toll Indian states and union territories]. With this installed on your vehicle, you can pass through electronic toll plazas without having to stop to pay tolls. It automatically deducts the relevant charges from the linked account. Apart from being a fast and secure method to pay tolls in India, it is also cheaper than paying toll in cash.

It is currently operational at 350+ toll plazas across national and state highways in India. More toll plazas will be brought under the FASTag program in the future.

<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Is FASTag compulsory on all Andhra Pradesh roads?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">FASTag is mandatory on all national highways managed by NHAI (NH-16, NH-65, NH-44, NH-40, etc.). Some older state highway and district toll arrangements may differ — check the specific road with the NHAI TIS or the Rajmargyatra app before travel.</p>
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">What happens if my FASTag balance runs out mid-journey?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Your tag gets blacklisted when balance falls below the minimum threshold. Recharge before reaching the next plaza via any UPI app or the Rajmargyatra app; a vehicle entering a FASTag lane with a blacklisted tag may be charged 2x.</p>
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Do motorcycles pay toll on AP national highways?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Motorcycles and two-wheelers are fully exempt from NHAI toll at all national highway fee plazas. No FASTag is required for two-wheelers at NHAI plazas.</p>
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Can I avoid AP highway tolls completely?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Partially. State highways and district roads offer toll-free alternatives but add 30-90 minutes to most journeys. For long-distance and time-sensitive travel, the tolled national highways are the practical option. Use the TollGuru calculator's "avoid tolls" routing to see alternatives.</p>
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Will GNSS tolling replace FASTag in Andhra Pradesh?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">GNSS OBUs are being rolled out first for commercial vehicles (trucks and buses with existing VLT systems), with private vehicle mandates expected in 2026-27. FASTag remains mandatory and fully valid throughout the transition. GNSS will eventually enable distance-based charging without stopping at toll barriers, including a 20-km daily free allowance for private vehicles.</p>
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Is the FASTag Annual Pass worth it for AP travel?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">At ₹3,075 for 200 crossings (FY 2026-27), it works out to ~₹15 per crossing. A single Kaza crossing (NH-16) costs ₹125 for a car, so the pass pays off after roughly 25 one-way trips. Frequent AP highway users will typically recover the cost within a few months of regular inter-city travel.</p>

Andhra Pradesh Toll Roads Complete Guide

System: FASTag RFID (mandatory) + GNSS satellite tolling (progressive rollout — commercial vehicles first, private to follow 2026-27)
Coverage: 8,744 km of National Highways; 100+ national highway fee plazas statewide
Currency: Indian Rupee (INR)
Technology: FASTag RFID transponders, ANPR cameras, GNSS On-Board Units (OBU) in pilot
Operators: NHAI, Private Concessionaires (BOT/HAM model), Toll Collection Agencies (e.g. Highway Infrastructure Limited, Rayalaseema Expressway), AP Roads and Buildings Department / APRDC (state highways)

Do I Need FASTag for Andhra Pradesh? 2026 Update

Yes — FASTag is mandatory for all Class M and N vehicles (cars, vans, LCVs, trucks, buses) on national highways in Andhra Pradesh since February 15, 2021. Cash is no longer accepted at national highway plazas (since April 10, 2026): a vehicle without a valid FASTag pays 1.25x the applicable toll by UPI, and a blacklisted or unfunded tag may be charged 2x.

Key Reality: With 100+ fee plazas across NH-16, NH-65, NH-44, NH-40 and other corridors, a Visakhapatnam-to-Chennai run crosses multiple plazas on NH-16, so per-plaza charges add up quickly on long trips. Without a valid FASTag, UPI payment is charged at 1.25x at every crossing, and a blacklisted tag may be charged 2x.

2026 Update: NHAI revised AP toll rates for FY 2026-27 (valid until March 31, 2027) under the annual revision of the National Highways Fee Rules; effective dates vary by plaza (Nannur from April 1, Kaza and Aganampudi from July 18, Chillakallu from July 24, 2026). GNSS-based satellite tolling is being rolled out starting with commercial vehicles; private vehicle OBU mandate is expected in 2026-27.

Andhra Pradesh Toll Costs: Current Rates

Andhra Pradesh toll rates vary by plaza, highway type (BOT, HAM, public-funded), and vehicle class. All figures below are FASTag rates for FY 2026-27 as listed on the NHAI Toll Information System; effective dates vary by plaza. Without a valid FASTag, UPI payment is charged at 1.25x the rate and cash is not accepted (effective April 10, 2026); a blacklisted or unfunded tag may be charged 2x.

NHAI Vehicle Classification (All AP Plazas)

Effective dates: Nannur April 1, 2026; Kaza and Aganampudi July 18, 2026; Chillakallu July 24, 2026. Sullurpet (BOT) shows its last published revision (effective July 1, 2025, single journey only); confirm the current gazette rate before travel. Pass Options for Frequent Users

FASTag Annual Pass (FY 2026-27: ₹3,075): Launched August 15, 2025 for non-commercial private vehicles (cars, jeeps, vans). Covers up to 200 toll crossings or one year — whichever comes first — at all 1,150+ NHAI fee plazas nationwide. Not valid on state-operated expressways such as the Yamuna Expressway or Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Purchase via the Rajmargyatra app or nhai.gov.in; activates within 2 hours.

Local Resident Monthly Pass (₹360/month, FY 2026-27): Available to non-commercial vehicle owners whose registered address falls within 20 km of a specific toll plaza. The local monthly pass is ₹360 for FY 2026-27 at the AP plazas listed above. Apply at the toll plaza helpdesk with an Aadhaar card, Vehicle Registration Certificate, and proof of residential address. Crossings at the enrolled plaza do not count towards the Annual Pass 200-trip limit. Note: the general monthly pass for non-local users is plaza-specific (e.g. a car pays ₹4,195 at Kaza and ₹3,515 at Chillakallu); confirm at the relevant toll plaza office.

How to Pay Andhra Pradesh Tolls

You can use the following payment methods at Andhra Pradesh NHAI toll plazas:

1. FASTag (Recommended — Standard Rate):

  • RFID tag affixed to windscreen; account auto-debited on passing each plaza
  • Issued by 30+ banks including SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis, Paytm Payments Bank
  • Recharge via UPI, net banking, debit/credit card, or BBPS at plaza POS
  • One vehicle must carry exactly one FASTag — multiple tags on the same vehicle is a violation
  • Official NHAI app: Rajmargyatra (Android and iOS) for account management and balance alerts
  • NHAI/IHMCL helpline: 1033 (24x7)

2. UPI Without FASTag (1.25x Rate):

  • Accepted at fee plazas for vehicles without a valid or functional FASTag; charged at 1.25x the applicable FASTag fee (rule in force since November 15, 2025)
  • FASTag remains the primary and cheapest payment method

3. Cash (No Longer Available at NHAI Plazas):

  • MoRTH Zero-Cash policy (effective April 10, 2026) has ended cash payment at all national highway plazas, including all AP NHAI plazas
  • Vehicles without a valid FASTag pay 1.25x by UPI; there is no cash option at the barrier. A vehicle entering a FASTag lane with a blacklisted tag or insufficient balance may still be charged 2x
  • Some legacy state highway plazas may still accept cash; confirm at the specific plaza before travel

4. GNSS Satellite Tolling (Rollout in Progress):

  • GPS/NavIC-based On-Board Unit (OBU) tracks distance traveled on toll roads; no barrier stop needed
  • Currently rolling out for commercial vehicles with existing Vehicle Location Tracking (VLT) systems; private vehicle OBU mandate expected 2026-27
  • GNSS OBU-equipped private vehicles receive a 20-km daily toll-free allowance on national highways
  • Existing FASTag remains mandatory and fully valid for all vehicles throughout the transition
  • Dedicated GNSS OBU lanes are being marked at existing plazas during the coexistence period

Enforcement and Penalties

NHAI enforces FASTag compliance through RFID readers and ANPR cameras at all plazas. Key rules as of 2026:

  • No valid FASTag: 1.25x the applicable toll if paid by UPI; cash is not accepted. Entering a FASTag lane with a blacklisted tag or insufficient balance may attract 2x
  • Blacklisted FASTag: Blocked due to insufficient balance, expired KYC, or registration mismatch. Recharge or fix the tag before reaching the plaza; a vehicle with a blacklisted tag may be charged 2x
  • Tag misuse: Using one FASTag across multiple vehicles, or holding it by hand instead of affixing to windscreen, attracts tag deactivation
  • E-notice system (under the April 2026 rules): Where a toll is not paid at the plaza, an e-notice is sent by SMS/email; pay within 3 days (72 hours) to avoid the toll doubling
  • 100-metre / 10-second rule: If the queue exceeds 100 metres or processing time exceeds 10 seconds per vehicle, vehicles may pass toll-free until congestion clears (plaza-level discretion)
  • Exempt vehicles: Presidential/Governor/VP convoys, armed forces, paramilitary, fire services and ambulances are exempt from NHAI tolls; ID-based manual waivers at the lane were scrapped from April 10, 2026, so exempt users are expected to use a FASTag

MoRTH Zero-Cash Policy (April 10, 2026):

  • Cash payment ended at all national highway fee plazas; all AP NHAI plazas are now FASTag/UPI only (UPI at 1.25x for vehicles without a valid FASTag)

E-Notice Enforcement (April 10, 2026):

  • NHAI issues automated SMS/email e-notices where a toll is not paid at the plaza; pay within 3 days (72 hours) to avoid the toll doubling

Kaza Plaza — New Toll Operator (January 23, 2026):

  • Highway Infrastructure Limited (HIL) commenced toll operations at Kaza Fee Plaza on NH-16 (Km 355-437.5, 82.5 km) from January 23, 2026, under a one-year, ₹328.77 crore NHAI contract, the first toll operations contract of this scale for HIL

NH-65 Chillakallu — Background (from July 2024):

  • GMR Group's concession on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada corridor (Dandumalkapuram to Nandigama, 181.5 km) ended June 30, 2024; NHAI took direct charge from July 1, 2024 and reduced rates at all three plazas (Pantangi, Korlapahad, Chillakallu) from April 1, 2025
  • In September 2026, NHAI awarded B.R. Goyal Infrastructure a one-year, ₹108.68 crore contract for user fee collection at Chillakallu Toll Plaza (Km 205.025)

Concessionaires and Road Authorities:

  • NAM Expressway Ltd (Cube Highways): Narketpally-Addanki-Medarametla toll road (212.5 km, about 125 km in Andhra Pradesh) linking NH-65 and NH-16; tollable length 203.8 km
  • Western Andhra Tollways Pvt Ltd (Interise): 55.7 km four-lane stretch of NH-44 on the Hyderabad-Kurnool corridor in Telangana; the concession was scheduled to end on August 19, 2026, so confirm current tolling status before travel
  • Naidupeta-Turpukanupur (NH-71, 34.88 km): six-laning under the Hybrid Annuity Model by APCO Infratech for NHAI in Nellore district
  • Plaza operators: Nannur (NH-40) is run by Rayalaseema Expressway Pvt Ltd and Sullurpet (NH-16) by Swarna Tollway Pvt Ltd under BOT (toll) concessions; Kaza is public funded and collected by Highway Infrastructure Limited
  • State highways (about 13,500 km) fall under the AP Road Development Corporation (APRDC) and the Roads and Buildings Department; their toll arrangements are separate from NHAI plazas

New Infrastructure Projects:

  • Bengaluru-Vijayawada Expressway (NH-544G): 518 km six-lane access-controlled expressway through Rayalaseema; under construction, opening expected 2026-27
  • Raipur-Visakhapatnam Expressway (NH-130CD): 464 km six-lane greenfield corridor from Chhattisgarh to Vizag Port; under construction, expected completion December 2026
  • Amaravati Outer Ring Road (NH-544D): 189.9 km ring road around the state capital; land acquisition underway in 2025-26

Planning Your Journey

Approximate FASTag Toll Costs for Common AP Routes (Car, 2026):

  • Visakhapatnam to Vijayawada (NH-16, ~350 km): Aganampudi is ₹70 single / ₹105 return for a car; additional NH-16 plazas apply, so check each plaza on TIS or use the toll calculator
  • Vijayawada to Chennai (NH-16, ~430 km): Kaza is ₹125 single / ₹190 return for a car and Sullurpet is ₹75 single; additional AP and Tamil Nadu plazas apply along the route
  • Hyderabad to Vijayawada (NH-65, ~280 km): Chillakallu is the only AP plaza on the route (₹105 single / ₹160 return for a car); Pantangi and Korlapahad in Telangana add to the total
  • Kurnool to Kadapa (NH-40): Nannur is ₹95 single / ₹140 return for a car; other plazas on the Kadapa-Kurnool section may apply

Cost-Saving Tips:

  • Keep ₹500+ buffer balance in your FASTag wallet above your estimated trip cost — a blacklisted tag may be charged 2x at the plaza
  • Use the return journey rate for same-day round trips; valid for 24 hours from first crossing at most AP plazas
  • Local commuters within 20 km of a plaza should apply for the concessional monthly pass (₹360/month for FY 2026-27) at the toll plaza helpdesk
  • The FASTag Annual Pass (₹3,075 for FY 2026-27) covers 200 crossings nationwide — worth buying if you regularly use multiple AP highway plazas

Frequently Asked Questions

Is FASTag compulsory on all Andhra Pradesh roads?

FASTag is mandatory on all national highways managed by NHAI (NH-16, NH-65, NH-44, NH-40, etc.). Some older state highway and district toll arrangements may differ — check the specific road with the NHAI TIS or the Rajmargyatra app before travel.

What happens if my FASTag balance runs out mid-journey?

Your tag gets blacklisted when balance falls below the minimum threshold. Recharge before reaching the next plaza via any UPI app or the Rajmargyatra app; a vehicle entering a FASTag lane with a blacklisted tag may be charged 2x.

Do motorcycles pay toll on AP national highways?

Motorcycles and two-wheelers are fully exempt from NHAI toll at all national highway fee plazas. No FASTag is required for two-wheelers at NHAI plazas.

Can I avoid AP highway tolls completely?

Partially. State highways and district roads offer toll-free alternatives but add 30-90 minutes to most journeys. For long-distance and time-sensitive travel, the tolled national highways are the practical option. Use the TollGuru calculator's "avoid tolls" routing to see alternatives.

Will GNSS tolling replace FASTag in Andhra Pradesh?

GNSS OBUs are being rolled out first for commercial vehicles (trucks and buses with existing VLT systems), with private vehicle mandates expected in 2026-27. FASTag remains mandatory and fully valid throughout the transition. GNSS will eventually enable distance-based charging without stopping at toll barriers, including a 20-km daily free allowance for private vehicles.

Is the FASTag Annual Pass worth it for AP travel?

At ₹3,075 for 200 crossings (FY 2026-27), it works out to ~₹15 per crossing. A single Kaza crossing (NH-16) costs ₹125 for a car, so the pass pays off after roughly 25 one-way trips. Frequent AP highway users will typically recover the cost within a few months of regular inter-city travel.

Andhra Pradesh vs. Neighbouring States

State / Border System Typical Car Rate (Per Plaza) Notes
Andhra Pradesh FASTag mandatory + GNSS rollout ₹70-₹125 100+ plazas; 8,744 km NH network
India — Telangana (NH-65 border) FASTag mandatory + GNSS rollout ₹70-₹200 Same FASTag tag valid; Pantangi and Korlapahad plazas on shared corridor
India — Tamil Nadu (NH-16 south) FASTag mandatory ₹85-₹150 NH-16 continues uninterrupted; same tag used across state border
India — Odisha (NH-16 north) FASTag mandatory ₹70-₹130 NH-16 coastal corridor continues into Odisha northward
India — Karnataka (NH-44 and NH-544G) FASTag mandatory ₹70-₹180 Bengaluru-Vijayawada Expressway (NH-544G) to add new plazas from 2026-27

India uses a single national FASTag system across all states. An AP-issued FASTag works identically in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Karnataka, and all other states. No separate state tag is required at state-border crossings.
