== Do I Need to Pay Tolls in Serbia? 2025 Update ==

Yes, all motor vehicles (including motorcycles) must pay tolls on Serbian motorways. Serbia uses a '''distance-based toll system''' with no vignette options available.
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">No, ENP (Electronic Toll Collection, Serbian: Elektronska naplata putarine) is optional for passenger cars and vans in Serbia - cash and card payment remain available at manned toll plazas. However, ENP users receive a 6% discount on tolls and avoid queues at busy plazas. TAG is mandatory for Category IV cargo vehicles since 1 January 2026.</p>

'''Toll Required On:'''
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;"><strong style="font-weight: bold;">Key Reality:</strong> Every motorway (auto-put) in Serbia is tolled, except the Belgrade Bypass, which is tolled for Category IV only. Transit drivers on Corridor X - the main pan-European route through Serbia connecting Croatia to North Macedonia and Bulgaria - take a ticket at entry and pay at exit. The toll depends on the entry station, the exit station and the vehicle category. A passenger car (Category I) pays 520 RSD from Belgrade to Šid and 1,800 RSD from Belgrade to Dimitrovgrad, so a full Corridor X transit costs about 2,320 RSD (about €20) in cash.</p>
* A1 motorway (Belgrade - Niš)
* A2 motorway (Belgrade - Novi Sad)
* A3 motorway (Belgrade bypass sections)
* A4 motorway (Novi Sad - Hungarian border)
* All connecting motorway sections

'''Toll-Free Sections:'''
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;"><strong style="font-weight: bold;">2026 Update:</strong> Toll prices increased on 1 January 2026, and the price list valid from 1 July 2026 (07:00) is the current one. Tolls for bridges, viaducts and tunnels are now 2.5 times and 5 times the per-kilometre toll. Toll collection for Category IV started on the Belgrade Bypass on 1 April 2026 (TAG only). ENP TAGs registered on Toll4All also work in North Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro and Republika Srpska.</p>
* A3 motorway through central Belgrade
* Local and regional roads
* Urban streets and city centers

Serbia operates a closed toll system where you take a magnetic card at entry and pay the calculated distance toll at exit.
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Serbia uses a closed, distance-based toll system. The toll depends on the entry station, the exit station and the vehicle category (Ia, I, II, III, IV). The category depends on axle count, height and mass. All prices below come from the official price list valid from 1 July 2026.</p>

== Penalties & Violations ==
<h2 style="font-size: 24px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 25px 0 15px 0; border-bottom: 1px solid #a2a9b1; padding-bottom: 2px;">Frequently Asked Questions</h2>

=== Common Violations ===
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Do I need a vignette for Serbia?</h3>
* Lost or damaged magnetic card
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">No. Serbia does not use a vignette system. All motorway tolls are collected at physical toll plazas on a distance-based, per-journey basis. There is no sticker or time-based pass to purchase before entry.</p>
* Using wrong entry point documentation
* Payment already made on duplicate card
* Improper ETC device usage

=== Penalty Procedure ===
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Do I have any exceptional rule in Serbia?</h3>
* Longest possible route calculated and charged
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">The only time a 10% discount applies is for heavy Category IV freight commercial trucks that carry certified EURO 6 eco-emission engines. This specialized 10% discount is applied on top of the standard 6% electronic toll discount. It does not apply across all vehicle categories</p>
* Additional extraordinary procedure costs applied
* Payment required on-spot at exit
* Severe penalties for non-payment

== Planning Your Serbia Journey ==
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Can I pay Serbia tolls in euros?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Yes, at most plazas. Change is returned in Serbian Dinars. Some interior plazas (such as mid-route on the A1) may only accept RSD and cards, so carry both if travelling longer distances.</p>

=== Cost Considerations ===
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">What happens if I do not pay a Serbia toll?</h3>
* '''Transit costs:''' Budget €2-6 per 100km depending on vehicle category
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">If you have no ticket, the ticket is damaged or older than 24 hours, or it was already used for payment, the longest route of the section is charged plus the cost of the extraordinary procedure. Toll evasion at manned booths is treated as a traffic violation; police patrol toll areas and can issue on-the-spot fines. For ENP accounts with insufficient balance, a grace notification is sent; repeated underpayment results in account suspension and pursuit of the outstanding balance plus penalties. On the Belgrade Bypass, Category IV vehicles that do not pay with a TAG registered on Toll4All receive an invoice that includes the cost of the extraordinary procedure.</p>
* '''ETC savings:''' 6% discount for electronic payment users
* '''Currency preference:''' Pay in RSD to avoid exchange rate variations
* '''Route planning:''' Use official calculator at putevi-srbije.rs

=== Travel Tips ===
<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Do motorcycles pay the same tolls as cars?</h3>
* '''Magnetic card security:''' Keep entry card safe throughout journey
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">No. Motorcycles are Category Ia and pay half of the Category I price (for example, Belgrade - Niš: 590 RSD against 1,180 RSD). They use standard toll lanes; there are no dedicated motorcycle lanes at Serbian plazas.</p>
* '''Lane selection:''' Choose correct lane at toll booths (manual vs ETC)
* '''Payment preparation:''' Have exact change or cards ready
* '''Alternative routes:''' Local roads available but add significant travel time
* '''Border crossings:''' ETC devices from neighboring countries accepted after registration

<h3 style="font-size: 20px; font-weight: bold; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; margin: 15px 0 8px 0;">Are tolls different for electric vehicles?</h3>
<p style="font-size: 16px; color: #202122; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 1.6; margin: 8px 0;">Yes. Owners of electric vehicles get a 10% discount, available only through the ENP web service. Students get 2% and pensioners get 3% in the same way. These discounts apply in addition to the standard 6% ENP discount. Electric vehicles are classified by the same height/axle criteria as combustion vehicles.</p>

Currency: Serbian Dinar (RSD); EUR accepted at most plazas

Do I Need ENP for Serbia? 2026 Update

No, ENP (Electronic Toll Collection, Serbian: Elektronska naplata putarine) is optional for passenger cars and vans in Serbia - cash and card payment remain available at manned toll plazas. However, ENP users receive a 6% discount on tolls and avoid queues at busy plazas. TAG is mandatory for Category IV cargo vehicles since 1 January 2026.

Key Reality: Every motorway (auto-put) in Serbia is tolled, except the Belgrade Bypass, which is tolled for Category IV only. Transit drivers on Corridor X - the main pan-European route through Serbia connecting Croatia to North Macedonia and Bulgaria - take a ticket at entry and pay at exit. The toll depends on the entry station, the exit station and the vehicle category. A passenger car (Category I) pays 520 RSD from Belgrade to Šid and 1,800 RSD from Belgrade to Dimitrovgrad, so a full Corridor X transit costs about 2,320 RSD (about €20) in cash.

2026 Update: Toll prices increased on 1 January 2026, and the price list valid from 1 July 2026 (07:00) is the current one. Tolls for bridges, viaducts and tunnels are now 2.5 times and 5 times the per-kilometre toll. Toll collection for Category IV started on the Belgrade Bypass on 1 April 2026 (TAG only). ENP TAGs registered on Toll4All also work in North Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro and Republika Srpska.

Serbia Toll Costs: Current Rates

Serbia uses a closed, distance-based toll system. The toll depends on the entry station, the exit station and the vehicle category (Ia, I, II, III, IV). The category depends on axle count, height and mass. All prices below come from the official price list valid from 1 July 2026.

Current Toll Rates by Vehicle Category (2026)

Category Vehicle Type Belgrade - Niš (RSD) Belgrade - Niš (EUR)
Category Ia Motorcycles, motor tricycles and quads 590 RSD €5.50
Category I Passenger cars and vans (2 axles, height ≤1.3 m at first axle; vans ≤1.9 m total height, ≤3,500 kg) 1,180 RSD €10.50
Category II Passenger cars and vans with trailer; vans over 1.9 m total height (≤3,500 kg) 1,770 RSD €15.50
Category III Trucks and buses (2-3 axles, height >1.3 m at first axle, over 3,500 kg); vans with trailer over 1.9 m 3,540 RSD €30.50
Category IV Vehicles with 4+ axles including trailer axles (height >1.3 m at first axle, over 3,500 kg) 7,080 RSD €60.50

Prices are cash prices from the official Putevi Srbije price list valid from 1 July 2026, 07:00. EUR amounts follow the official EUR price list. ENP users receive a 6% discount. Bridges, viaducts and tunnels are charged at a higher rate per kilometre. Check the official price list before travel.

Serbia Motorway Network

Serbia's motorway network includes Corridor X (A1, A3, A4), the A2 Miloš the Great Motorway, the A5 Moravian Corridor and the Belgrade Bypass. Additional expressway segments are under construction. All tolled routes are operated by Putevi Srbije.

Corridor X (Pan-European):

  • A1 (E75) - Subotica - Niš - Preševo: The longest and busiest motorway in Serbia, running from the Hungarian border near Subotica through Belgrade and Niš to the North Macedonian border at Preševo. It features a closed toll system where you pull a ticket upon entering the highway network and pay when exiting. The main toll stations are Stara Pazova (north of Belgrade) and Vrčin (south of Belgrade). Category I examples: Belgrade - Subotica 850 RSD, Belgrade - Niš 1,180 RSD, Belgrade - Preševo 2,060 RSD, Subotica - Preševo 2,910 RSD
  • A3 (E70) - Belgrade - Šid: The western arm of Corridor X connecting Belgrade to Zagreb (Croatian border near Šid). It is a heavy transit freight corridor. The main toll station on this stretch is Šimanovci. Category I: Belgrade - Šid 520 RSD
  • A1-A4 (E75/E80) - Belgrade - Dimitrovgrad: The southeastern leg of Corridor X completing the direct motorway link toward Sofia and Istanbul. The A4 (E80) connects to the A1 near Niš at the Trupale interchange. Category I: Belgrade - Dimitrovgrad 1,800 RSD

Corridor XI and Other Routes:

  • A5 (E761) - Moravian Corridor: Connects the A1 motorway at Pojate (Corridor X) westward across central Serbia to the A2 motorway at Preljina (Corridor XI). Tolled up to the Koševi head toll station
  • A2 (E763) - Belgrade - Požega: Miloš the Great Motorway. Connects Belgrade south-west via Čačak to Požega (Corridor XI), toward Montenegro. It carries the E763 designation. Category I: Belgrade - Prilipac 950 RSD
  • BELGRADE-BYPASS (Obilaznica): Connects the A1, A2, and A3 motorways. It is entirely toll-free for passenger cars. Distance-based toll collection on the ring road applies strictly to motor vehicles with four or more axles (including the trailers' axles) with height over 1.3 m measured at the first axle, with maximum allowed mass over 3,500 kg (Category IV). Payment is by TAG only (barrier-free), registered on Toll4All. Category IV prices per section: Batajnica - Belgrade 340 RSD; Belgrade - Surčin 120 RSD; Surčin - Surčin jug 120 RSD; Surčin jug - Ostružnica 290 RSD; Ostružnica - Orlovača 480 RSD; Orlovača - Avala 390 RSD; Avala - Bubanj Potok 130 RSD

  • Passenger car, Belgrade to Niš: 1,180 RSD one way (€10.50), about 2,360 RSD return, cash
  • Full Corridor X transit (passenger car): about 2,320 RSD (about €20) from Šid to Dimitrovgrad via Belgrade, less 6% with ENP
  • Category IV vehicles pay 6 times the Category I price; Category III pay 3 times; motorcycles (Ia) pay half
  • Budget extra time at Stara Pazova and Šimanovci main toll stations during summer peak (July-August)

Toll-Free Alternatives:

  • Regional (R) roads parallel most motorway corridors but add 40–90 minutes per 100 km
  • Belgrade city ring roads (non-motorway) are toll-free for urban travel
  • The Belgrade Bypass is toll-free for passenger cars; all other auto-put sections are tolled

Foreign Vehicles:

  • No vignette or special foreign vehicle permit required - pay per toll plaza like domestic users
  • Euros accepted at most plazas; carry some RSD for interior plazas on longer journeys
  • A TAG from North Macedonia, Croatia, Montenegro or Republika Srpska can be used in Serbia through Toll4All - register the TAG on toll4all.com and confirm with your TAG provider

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a vignette for Serbia?

No. Serbia does not use a vignette system. All motorway tolls are collected at physical toll plazas on a distance-based, per-journey basis. There is no sticker or time-based pass to purchase before entry.

Do I have any exceptional rule in Serbia?

The only time a 10% discount applies is for heavy Category IV freight commercial trucks that carry certified EURO 6 eco-emission engines. This specialized 10% discount is applied on top of the standard 6% electronic toll discount. It does not apply across all vehicle categories

Can I pay Serbia tolls in euros?

Yes, at most plazas. Change is returned in Serbian Dinars. Some interior plazas (such as mid-route on the A1) may only accept RSD and cards, so carry both if travelling longer distances.

What happens if I do not pay a Serbia toll?

If you have no ticket, the ticket is damaged or older than 24 hours, or it was already used for payment, the longest route of the section is charged plus the cost of the extraordinary procedure. On the Belgrade Bypass, Category IV vehicles that do not pay with a TAG registered on Toll4All receive an invoice that includes the cost of the extraordinary procedure.

Do motorcycles pay the same tolls as cars?

No. Motorcycles are Category Ia and pay half of the Category I price (for example, Belgrade - Niš: 590 RSD against 1,180 RSD). They use standard toll lanes; there are no dedicated motorcycle lanes at Serbian plazas.

Are tolls different for electric vehicles?

Yes. Owners of electric vehicles get a 10% discount, available only through the ENP web service. Students get 2% and pensioners get 3% in the same way. These discounts apply in addition to the standard 6% ENP discount. Electric vehicles are classified by the same height/axle criteria as combustion vehicles.

Is there a weekend or night discount?

No time-of-day or day-of-week discounts apply on Serbian motorways. The 6% ENP reduction is available at all times. EV, student and pensioner discounts are available through the ENP web service.
