Do I Need Senegal Tolls? 2026 Update

You cannot avoid tolls if you drive between Dakar and the airport (AIBD), Thies, Touba, or Mbour & the Sine-Saloum region – these are the country's only fast, congestion-free corridors. Surface roads (RN1, RN2, RN3) remain toll-free but are far slower through Dakar's suburbs.

2026 Update: The Mbour-Thiadiaye section of the new Mbour-Fatick-Kaolack expressway opened April 29, 2026. The remaining Thiadiaye-Fatick-Kaolack section is expected to open around September/October 2026, extending the tolled network toward the Sine-Saloum region. Separately, the 10-year "regie interessee" contract under which SEGEA SA operates the Ila Touba and AIBD-Mbour-Thies sections comes up for its scheduled review in 2026, and the Eiffage concession on Dakar-Diamniadio-AIBD is also due a contractual evaluation this year.

These rates were reconfirmed by the Ministry of Infrastructure as unchanged from the interministerial tariff order; the state deliberately caps the Thies-Touba fare below cost recovery to keep the route affordable. How to Pay

• Cash and bank cards: Accepted at manual booths on all toll sections, including Dakar-Diamniadio-AIBD.
• Xeweul card + OBU: A rechargeable card paired with an On-Board Unit for cashless, stop-free passage at 25 km/h on Ila Touba, AIBD-Mbour, AIBD-Thies, and the Nelson Mandela Bridge in Foundiougne. Balance is checked by briefly removing and reinserting the card.
• Sentrafic mobile app: Provided by Autoroutes du Senegal for real-time traffic and travel information alongside the toll network.

Enforcement & Penalties

All toll barriers are staffed or camera-monitored; there is no unstaffed free-flow tolling in Senegal, so non-payment at a barrier is not possible in normal operation.
