Toll-Free Alternatives:

• Class I roads (non-tolled) are available as alternatives but add significant journey time — the D1 Bratislava–Košice route has no viable toll-free parallel for the full distance
• Electric and hybrid vehicles under 3.5 t still require a vignette — there is no EV exemption in Slovakia

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to display anything on my windscreen?

No. The Slovak eVignette is entirely digital and linked to your plate number. There is nothing to stick to or place in the vehicle. Always keep your purchase confirmation email as proof of payment.

Can I buy the vignette at the border?

Yes. Petrol stations at all major border crossings sell eVignettes. However, buying online in advance (at eznamka.sk) avoids queues and lets you set a future start date. The vignette takes effect immediately unless you specify a later start.

Does my Austrian or Czech vignette cover Slovakia?

No. Each country's vignette is valid only within that country. If you are driving through Slovakia from Austria into Hungary, you need a valid Slovak vignette in addition to any Austrian vignette you hold.

What if I entered the wrong plate number?

Contact the NDS customer line immediately. Corrections can be made within 15 minutes of purchase via eznamka.sk if the vignette has not yet become valid. After that window, you will need to purchase a new vignette for the correct plate.

Are buses and coaches subject to the vignette?

Buses over 3.5 t are subject to the HGV electronic toll system (SkyToll), not the passenger car vignette. Bus operators must register with SkyToll and fit an OBU before using tolled roads.

Can I get a refund on an unused vignette?

Refunds are available only for vignettes with a future start date that has not yet been reached. Once a vignette has become valid (even for one minute), no refund is possible. Requests must be submitted via eznamka.sk.
